      Entretien

I was contacted by a recruiter for the "Senior Manager, Technology" position at Sapient Nitro. The recruiter briefed me about Sapient's interview process, and said that it was a "workoholic" company, and took my consent to forward my resume to Sapient. A few weeks later, I was informed that I had been shortlisted for an interview, but it took about 2 months before I finally received a call from the Sapient hiring team. The person calling was courteous and articulate. She confirmed my interest to interview with Sapient and again briefed me about the interview process- * Phone interview * 1:1 case study and discussion * Technical presentation about case study to a panel * 1 or more rounds of technical interviews * Attributes Interview * Meeting with the director There was an initial phone interview which was very generic and high level, I got a feeling that the interviewer was not too technical, and was perhaps part of the hiring team. A week or so passed before some one called and asked me for suitable dates for the in-person interviews. Once we mutually decided on a day, the caller told me that the entire interview process would take about 6 hours. Again, the caller was noticeably courteous and professional. I was offered to be picked up for the interview by a company car from anywhere I chose. I asked to be picked up from home and was informed that the cab would pick me up at 7 AM (the office is located in Whitefield, a LOOONG way from home). On the day of the interview, I was picked up on the dot, and I reached the location by 8 AM. I was allowed in after registration at the security desk. I saw that the security personnel had an interviewee sheet with several interviews scheduled for that day, many for the same position I was interviewing for. My interview was scheduled for 9 AM, and since I was early, I spent time at the reception reading up newspapers and magazines. At about 9:30 AM, a person who was "Director, Technology" started the interview process by giving me a case study of an actual Sapient client. I was given 90 minutes to accomplish a set of tasks relating to the case study. The tasks were creating an architecture, deployment strategy, software stack, module decomposition, hardware sizing etc. I did not have prior experience in a few of the tasks, but took educated guesses. After 90 minutes the Director came back to the cabin and first asked me about my prior experience and interests. Then he asked me to present the architecture I had created over the last 90 minutes. As I was presenting the architecture, he asked questions about the architecture and also my prior experience. Lots of questions on scalability, performance, high availability and maintainability. I had to make educated guesses several times. This session lasted about 120 minutes. It was a very positive interview, and I felt that the interview was designed to focus on my strengths. Every time we hit an area of weakness, the interviewer came came back to an area of strength. I was very impressed with the maturity of the interviewer. Post interview, there was a lot of chit chat with some friendly hiring personnel, who made sure I had snacks to munch on, and lots of coffee. There was about a 60 minute delay before I learned that I had "cleared" the interview, and was told that the next round would be the "Attributes Interview". The "Attributes Interview" was over the phone since the people who were assigned to interview me were not at the office. The interview focused on business and management case studies. Essentially, I was described various situations, and was asked how I would deal with those situations. This interview lasted for 90 to 120 minutes and was TOUGH. I waited for about an hour before I was told that I had "cleared" the second interview as well. I waited for another hour before being told that I would be contacted by the hiring team over the phone. It was about 4 PM, and the entire process took about 7 to 8 hours. I was dropped back home. A week after the interviews, I was made an offer. I was told that I had not performed too well in the attributes interview and that the interviewers felt that I needed more exposure to the business aspects. I was offered the post of "Manager, Technology".

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

The entire attributes interview. Not any specific question. One of the questions I can recall was- What would you do if a a project you were assigned a legally binding project that has exhausted 80% of it's budget, but was only 20% complete.

1st there is a screening call, which is rescheduled multiple times, then there is an assignment which has to be completed immediately regardless of your current work schedule if not you will be tormented by the HR team like credit card/personal loan offer calls, post this there will be a telephonic interview, which is again rescheduled multiple times, however they will ask you to solve a code problem while on the call and if it takes longer they do give you some more time, but once you complete it and submit it, there is no response. Silence is golden. You get an automated email from Sapient saying thank you and when you try to contact the HR personnel who tormented your life for over 2 weeks will not respond either. I think all companies should focus on maintaining a work culture inside and outside their business.

After the initial phone interview, face to face interviews was scheduled with 4 Sapientists: Sr. Managers, Directors, and the hiring Director. There was a lot of waiting around due to emergencies and a test was given. It was unrealistic to finish the test in one hour: design an eCommerce solution.

Applied through their dice profile. Got a call back after 2 weeks. After initial HR screening, there was a in depth 30 minute technical interview (though the role is Technical manager/Architect) as if it is for a developer. Called for in person interview. First hour is to architect a solution for a problem. I was given one hour to do and another an hour for review of the solution that is proposed. I liked this part - you are in a room with 4 white boards on all walls and we are asked to provide logical/physical architecture, project plan and identify risks.
