      Entretien pour Full Stack Software Engineer Intern

      J'ai postulé via un recruteur. Le processus a pris 4 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez Grab (Kuala Lumpur) en juin 2024

      Entretien

      I met with one of the recruiters from their recruiting team in a career fair. I was promised to be given a say by next week, however, I wasn't told anything until the week following next week. During the waiting period, the recruiter was not responsive at all. Hence, I tried connecting with other recruiters for second opinion. I only did so as they said they would give a call regardless if I am shortlisted or not. Around a week after, I received a phone call from the recruiter for a phone interview, which was done without any prior notice, as I was having lunch at that time. I also got told off indirectly for asking other recruiters I met during that day on my application progress. A reschedule can be done, but it would be rescheduled to around weeks / months later, which was what she mentioned during the phone call. After the phone screening, I was arranged for a technical interview with a currently employed engineer. The questions were alright, and the interviewer was generally friendly, welcoming any questions and providing guidance throughout the interview. I was then arranged a cultural fit interview the next week and I asked the recruiter whether there would be a meeting link given. This was because the previous interview, she set up the meeting link. She responded saying my interviewer was on leave, and mine had to be postponed a week later. This was done the night before the interview. My interview was scheduled the next morning. The interview was labelled as a cultural fit interview but I was tested with JavaScript for the entirety of the interview instead. The result of my rejection was received a month later after my final interview. During the one month period, I asked my recruiter for the result but again, she was unresponsive at all. I periodically contacted her. Overall, it was one of the worst experiences I had as a candidate. The recruiter being responsive only when she needed something from me, was really disrespectful to me. Other times, messages were read and seen. The acknowledgement of the postponement of my interview was also due to my effort of extending a reminder to her the night before. She reasoned with the fact that the interviewer wasn't available on the agreed date, and this was told the night before the interview. My interview was initially scheduled the next morning. I guess I was unfortunate to have such a disappointing experience amongst others who have nothing but the best to say about their recruiting process with Grab MY. Another peer of mine was interviewed for the same position, different department at the same time I was. We were handled by the same recruiter. He had everything good to say about the recruiter for being responsive and quick to take actions. I might not be as highly valued as a candidate compared to the next person to the recruiting team, but I just hope there's more professionalism displayed from the recruiting team. I also hope the purpose of each interview is understood by both interviewee and interviewer. If a candidate is to be technically tested, I think candidates will hope to know so before the interview, If it is a cultural fit interview, then ensure this fact is understood by both the interviewee and interviewer, as well as adhering to the agenda of the planned interview. I was lucky to have my laptop when I attended the cultural fit interview. I wouldn't and couldn't imagine the stress on another candidate if his/her available device for a supposedly cultural fit interview turned technical interview, is just a mobile phone or a tablet. All in all, I hope other candidates are treated more fairly, or at least more professional than I was. This experience made me unsure whether it is wise for me to pursue a software engineering career in Grab in the future and recommend others to do so. Your mileage may differ, maybe I was just extremely unlucky.
