      Entretien

I applied online to work at Family Video and the assistant manager of a nearby store called me the very next day. I went into the store for a brief interview. He asked me several questions. Some involved availability (they want 100% availability as most retail/video stores would, of course) but a lot of the questions were about life experiences and goals. The assistant manager explained a bit about Family Video and said that while I was well qualified to be a store manager in training I'd need to relocate (which I will not do at this time). He said he really liked me and wanted to arrange an interview as quickly as possible with the district manager. He assured me that with my experience and personality I'd be able to start right away and move up into a full-time slot quicker than most people. I was excited and told him I could start right away as it was the week before Christmas - he said that would be great and he imagined I'd start over the holiday weekend because they were eager to fill two positions at the store. He asked if I would be willing to do a timed test and I agreed. It took almost an hour with several timed sections varying from math to comprehension to customer service. It was lengthy and reminded me of a mini ACT test. As soon as I got home from the interview, he called to tell me that I scored very high on the test and the district manager could meet with me later in the week. He gave me a time for that interview but it was on Christmas Eve and the district manager wound up canceling because of that. So instead they asked me to come in 2 days after Christmas and meet with the store manager. I went in and had exactly the same questions asked as the assistant manager asked me during my initial interview. The store manager also seemed pleased with my responses and said he would be calling me within a day or two. He never called. I consider it very inappropriate that the assistant manager "promised" me things, made me take the lengthy test, and assured me that I would be hired. They apparently need to have better communication at the store level and train assistant managers not to make decisions unauthorized.
