The DG that I was interested in contacted me via phone without prior notice. It was an informal interview that lasted about twenty minutes. My main duties were also presented to me.

Competency interview. The interview was tailored to the specific trainee position vacancy and aimed at accessing knowledge about the policies of the specific unit in the Directorate General. The interview was about 25 minutes long.

Smooth overall. Also HR was okay. However, the whole procedure with the tests is terrible. It takes so much time and effort for entry level positions. I wouldn't try again.

I had to apply with CV and motivation letter. 3 Weeks later I got an email stating that I was shortlisted and invited to a 24h-written test (in which I had to summarize a OCHA pledging conference of 4h in 500 words) and to a 25 minutes interview. I asked them to change the time of the interview, and they were really friendly and obliging. The interview went smoothly and took only took 20 minutes. The interviewers upheld a friendly and respectful atmosphere.
- Q 1: Can you tell us something about yourself, why you applied to the position and why you are a good fit for the position? Q2: Can you tell us with which UN bodies and agencies the section for humanitarian affairs and migration works the closest together? Q3: Can you tell us about three current humanitarian emergencies and explain one more in detail? Q4: Do you have any further questions? Are you available for the traineeship period?

Short interview with very few questions on the phone. I didn't have time to plan my answers because I wasn't noticed in advance. The interview was quite informal and it lasted less than 5 minutes.

Very easy and quick, just a telephone call with questions about my past experiences and education. It usually depend on the Unit you are applying to but in general for the traineeship the selection procedure is fairly easy.
