      Entretien

      Started off well and made it through screening to the second round. DoIT’s ethos that is splashed all over their career website is ‘We want you to be you, with us’ I thought that I did well in both rounds and they were both seemingly geared as an informal chat. The first was with an internal recruiter and the second with the Lead UX person. I started my second interview call with the Lead UX person and it was just them in the meeting. We chatted in amicable way and I was asked some broad questions that were not overly technical. I thought that this format was fine and that I was given time and space to respond with a bit more in-depth information. I also was given the opportunity to ask questions around the role once the questions were over. Overall I thought that the second interview went well and that I was able to convey my experience and skills that would complement the role and bring value to the business. This was not conveyed in the feedback email I received, where I had failed the second interview. I was surprised and disappointed as the feedback was largely based around being technically impressive with good experience but ‘failing to answer in a concise way’. I had in effect failed the format of the interview around communication, which was not really conveyed to me at all in the first interview and that there was no mention of keeping the answers more concise / brief in the actual interview at the time. I felt that the feedback and reason for failing the second round was quite woolly in all honesty and would not be surprised if there was already an internal candidate lined up. The saving grace was that the internal recruitment contact did send a follow up email after my reply saying that I tend to ‘waffle a bit when I’m nervous’ that had some good interview technique points around covering where I had let myself down. It would have been nice to have had this feedback and coaching before the second interview if this was such a weighted internal consideration on whether a candidate is successful or not for a technical role.
