Je travaille chez University of Glasgow à plein temps (Pendant plus de 5 ans)

    Avantages

Friendly atmosphere, comparable salary to similar roles at other universities. Opportunities to develop within a role. Excellent city to live in.

    Inconvénients

Not much mentorship if you're on a temporary research only contract. Limited opportunity to be promoted within the University. Very dependent on the relationship you have with your direct line manager which is fine if you get on, less so if you don't.

    Conseils à la direction

Consider your temporary contract staff. We would stay if we encouraged more.

J'ai travaillé chez University of Glasgow en Contrat Permanent (Moins d'un an)

    Avantages

The staff immediately make you feel like part of the team. If you have any issues, they are there to help you.
Additionally, the location is brilliant. Easy access to the city centre and to the West end of Glasgow.
    You are always kept busy!

    Inconvénients

There is a Limited promotion line. It can take you quite a while to progress from support assistant, to assistant, supervisor then manager.

    Conseils à la direction

Keep up the brilliant work. The staff work so hard and they truly are the best team to work for.

Je travaille chez University of Glasgow à plein temps (Pendant plus de 3 ans)

    Avantages

Nice location on main campus with lots of shopping and eating options at lunch time. Never needed to work overtime. Lots of staff are nice people, but there are plenty of rogues! Good amount of holidays (28 annual leave + 9 public holiday + 3 days between Xmas and new year)

    Inconvénients

Inconsistant and unfair recruitment practices, basically recruiting managers are left to their own devices to discriminate and HR don't care about enforcing recruitment standards or policies. No regard to equal pay when setting salaries, particularly for people applying internally, there is no room for negotiation whereas peole externally recruited can negotatiate their salary which leads to unfair discrepancies.

You will never get a parking permit, despite this being a "benefit" it is completely unavailable to new staff. No flexitime system, flexibility is at the discretion of the line manager, this really should be a defined policy in such a large organisation. I've seen cases where manager's favourites are given much more flexibility than other staff.

P&DR is a box ticking exercise, the university don't care about your professional progress unless you are a top researcher. I witnessed some victimisation and discrimination in my department, not a nice working environment. I know of many female staff who felt discriminated against, this is a common complaint at this university.

    Conseils à la direction

Clean up your recruitment practices. Be more aware of the way some managers are treating people and do something about it.

    Avantages

Nice facilities, great swimming pool, fantastic location in the west end of Glasgow, plenty of cafes and pubs 5 mins walk

    Inconvénients

Caters to the Chinese students rather than home grown students. Weather is miserable.

    Conseils à la direction

Focus on home grown students rather than those from abroad. It will pay dividends in the future.

J'ai travaillé chez University of Glasgow en Contrat Permanent (Pendant plus de 3 ans)

    Avantages

I worked with some lovely people and the university has a great environment. The students are fab and the administrative staff are brilliant.

    Inconvénients

The management and treatment of employees is appalling. I was left unemployed as a result of pregnancy because of loop holes in my contract. I was told by my line manager that had I not been pregnant my contract would have been renewed. This is sex discrimination but nobody at UoG cared.

    Conseils à la direction

Try treating employees as human beings instead of robots in a production line
