Je travaille chez Rackspace à plein temps (Pendant plus de 8 ans)

    Avantages

    Learning opportunities
    Challenged at all times
    Frontline Rackers are like family
People truly care, especially our VP of support, genuine, authentic leader

    Inconvénients

Substance over flash is no longer a thing - Flash without substance is rewarded
We have too much leadership and not enough technical rackers to help our customers.

Too many C-Level, C-Level rarely visits frontline.

Huge disconnect from C-Level to frontline support

C-Level is not hungry, they’ve made their millions, not engaged or motivating.
C-Level has zero empathy or solutions to the challenges frontline Rackers face each day.
C-Level does not address questions when recently asked, “Why so many leaders and not enough engineers to support our customers?” This was asked in a recent town hall, it was not addressed as it was found insulting to the leaders.

Leaders in frontline support are often self serving and not truly interested in the success or happiness of their employees.

    Conseils à la direction

    Encourage substance over flash
Keep Justin Brady as the VP of support and model all other leaders after him.
Require account managers to be technical as well as leaders. Most leaders are not technical and offer no help when there are issues as they only understand excel and KPI reports. This leaves us to fend for ourselves and hope for the best.
Stop lowering the bar on who we hire. We used to have high standards, now we hire incompetent leaders regularly and account managers who are not effective for our customers.
Require consistency across the segments - Example, some segments are allowed to WFH, some are not. Yet, roles are the same. We have hundreds of remote Rackers, so the theory behind the limitations remains a mystery and is never explained by leadership.

Encourage a work life balance. Encourage leaders to encourage employees a work life balance. We burn out quickly on the frontline.

Ask yourselves with the amount of leadership in place why we continue to face the same issues and challenges we have for over 5 years. How many leaders does it take to change a lightbulb? Too many at Rackspace. Take the money we pay these leaders we truly don’t need and hire NetSec, Storage, Virt engineers. Our customers would be happy, our NPS scores would rise (customers will recommend us) We will grow faster and have happy customers and happy Rackers.

Je travaille chez Rackspace à plein temps (Pendant plus de 3 ans)

    Avantages

    Very friendly people

Depending on your manager some good opportunities to Work From Home

Flexible Schedule - Get your work done mentality (not under all managers though)

Excellent opportunities to learn from others

You can make an impact, just requires a lot of jumping through hoops.

Support teams manager really want the best for the customers

    Inconvénients

Constant acquisition of new companies and technologies with no real investment in the people that support existing technologies that are underwater.

No real investment in verifying process and predictability with a product so the support teams end up working to constantly fix issues.

It seems that the work to save money is shoved onto the support people to make it happen, with very little support from Rackspace as a whole. This is especially painful for some of the largest customers that need that detail to attention and pay Rackspace a lot of money for support.

Lack of work life balance for those in 24/7 roles. It's nearly impossible to actually go on vacation and actually leave work behind. There needs to be a better system for these roles so people don't get burnt out and leave.

Constantly have to plead to get things done in a timely manner because support teams aren't given the head count they need to support the number of customers they have.

    Conseils à la direction

Set the business up to succeed in areas that need it. Your support teams are the life blood of the company. You can acquire and offer as many products as you want. But if people aren't well trained and well taken care of to support those, you end up with a lot of unhappy customers not understanding how we could possibly sell them something that is such a mess.

Take care of your people, they're what brings the money in, in the long run and keeps it coming. Abuse workers talents and time and you'll end up with a giant mess on your hands.

Go back to being a transparent organization. Keeping employees in the dark, makes them feel like they don't matter any longer.

Listen to the voices of your employees. Why was it taken away in such a crucial changing and pivotal point in the company.

Don't make decisions at the top with no regards for the work it puts on employees. Saving money isn't worth losing customers and talent that works for you.

Value the culture, and mean it. Don't just say you do and then not offer support of it.

Rackspace is still can be a great place, don't let the money be the only reason something is done.
