Avantages
Working in an audit firm like Mazars has allowed me to learn a lot in a very short time. Very quickly, I was able to manage clients in a very autonomous way, to lead teams and to manage client communication alone. I also developed a lot of hard skills (finance, accounting, management) and soft skills (planning, communication, team leadership). In only three years, I feel like I have gained 10 years of experience.
Inconvénients
As in all audit firms, the workload is so high that you can quickly become stressed, tired, overworked and have no time to do anything in your private life. Overtime (unpaid) and weekend work is fairly standard in this kind of firm. You will work a lot sometimes without any real consideration. Your experience will also depend a lot on your client portfolio. I sometimes felt that I was underpaid for everything I brought to the firm. The annual bonuses didn't feel like they compensated me for the extra work I put in. In fact, your work will start to pay off in terms of remuneration if you stay until you are a senior manager or director, which is at least 8 years. A lot of people end up working 3-5 years in audit to train well and then sell themselves to other companies. As a result, turnover is very high, which can sometimes make it difficult to manage work and life in the company in general.
