Je travaille chez Boston Consulting Group à plein temps (Moins d'un an)

    Avantages

++ Amazing co-workers - learn a lot from them and fun to be around
++ Access to professional growth opportunities - constantly stretching; unique opportunities to shape some of the world's largest organizations
+ Fast & (mostly) transparent promotion trajectory, relative to other careers
+ Benefits & perks - world-class health insurance, generous T&E policy in some US locations
+ Competitive salary - Comparable to other top-tier consulting firms
+ "PTO" program baked in to cases to help proactively address work-life balance & other case experience issues

    Inconvénients

    - Work-life balance can be challenging, depending on the project
    - Upward feedback seems to carry little weight, meaning terrible managers occasionally get promoted
    - Staffing model is more regional relative to McKinsey, making it slightly harder to get staffed on projects outside of the US (but easier than e.g., Bain) - this may be more of a pro for some folks

    Conseils à la direction

Make upward feedback a more critical input into manager promotion decisions to weed out the bad ones

In an increasingly more competitive selling environment, share best practices among partners to sell & scope cases with appropriate resourcing as to not overburden teams

Continue to find ways of integrating acquired groups (e.g., digital ventures) with BCG consulting core

    Avantages

Amazing and amazingly well-run company. Huge talent across all levels and a flat / collaborative culture

    Inconvénients

It's professional services - BCG does a great job of trying to hit work/life balance but does not succeed 100% of the time

    Avantages

Exposure to several industries and topics

Very high learning pace as people constantly challenged to get out of comfort zone and given the opportunity to present their work, getting direct exposure to top management

    Inconvénients

Work-life balance is truly challenging: long working hours and difficult to plan ad constantly changing in line with client and/or partners’ needs

    Conseils à la direction

Ensure proper staffing to projects (rather than competing on costs with big 4)
Get rid of Face time culture and leverage smart working

    Avantages

Great learning experience, truly a global company, gives you exposure to multiple practice areas and industries

    Inconvénients

Very bad work life balance, at times career is dependent on the your partners liking you. You are under constant pressure to get partners to like you and end up doing lot of unnecessary work

    Conseils à la direction

Thing about work life balance , beyond just taking cosmetic steps like PTO. Think about ways to actively manage stress among employees, especially after you have investment 4-5 years in an employee

    Avantages

Overall, I love BCG. Great place to work that's making strides in the industry. The firm's digital capabilities are rapidly expanding and also coalescing into a strong offering for its client. But BCG is not a monolithic entity. The culture and quality vary greatly by office.

    Inconvénients

The Dallas office is one to avoid...at least go into it eyes wide open. Plenty of political infighting, weak partners and a focus on office profitability make for a toxic environment that's counter to what BCG is really about (and very different from the rest of the firm.) Although it describes itself as familial, it's cliquish. If you fit in and make friends with the "right" people, you might do well, regardless of your merit. Don't make the effort to play the game and you won't do well, regardless of your effort. You're either in or you're out. Sadly this is allowed to persist by the system and regional management. The office has also had its fair share of harassment issues and other workplace misconduct.

    Conseils à la direction

Make moves towards unifying BCG. Eliminate office P&Ls (fiefdoms) and move to regional P&Ls to lessen the internal politicking over things that don't add value to clients and don't create value for the firm - just slicing the pie in different ways among partners, offices.
