Avantages
The other servers I work with are generally great people.
Inconvénients
Theres a lot, buckle up. First of all, there is no support from management (meaning upper management... not my own department managers, the martyrs that they are.) They pretend as if they value our opinions and input, but problems and concerns we have about our workplace are left unanswered and unresolved. The entire length of my employment, our restaurant computer systems have failed to preform. Countless days we've had to struggle with a computer system and network that completely fails us. Complaint after complaint we give to upper management about how we need a new system in order to work properly, and yet time and time again we are told that the issue is being look at or being fixed. But 3 years later we still need to tell our guests that they can't pay with a card because the computer system doesn't work and can't process credit cards, and they have to wait 30+ minutes while we ring everything in by hand like its 1988. Not to mention our cliental are anything but understanding. The people this company caters to, are some of the most repulsive and demeaning refuse humankind has to offer. Servers are routinely belittled and humiliated by these people while management comps their meals, and gives them a free dinner to come back with new material to degrade their staff with. They spend over $1 million on renovations for the kitchen, during which the restaurant remains open for business, and is forced to prepare food in the basement of the 200+ year old building. The floor of which is just the earth beneath it, and the ceiling above, centuries of dusty uncleaned telegraph wires and other cables that don't help the networking issues. The executive managers of the inn would rather cut a live piano player on Sundays for guests, rather than cut back on their frivolous company paid for lunches and dinners, and take up tables that could have been made available to paying guests, that we then had to turn away. The recently renovated kitchen was done without any input from the staff that worked and, let's be honest, spent a majority of their waking hours in. The new kitchen, is a nightmare to work in. There is no flow, space is wasted in the worst way just to keep "kitchen noise out of the dinning room." So they make a huge empty echo chamber as soon as you enter the kitchen. Noise is even worse than before. Honestly if it wasn't for the money, benefits, and my lack of self respect, I would have quit years ago
